Field Service Engineer
Location: Varies FLSA Status: Exempt
Role Summary As a Field Service Engineer for Superior Technical Services, you will perform the regular maintenance, repair, installation, and de-installation of FEI, Philips, and ThermoFisher SEM, FIB, and Dual Beam equipment utilized in manufacturing support, research, and educational environments. Working independently and with team support, you will manage service events from initial dispatch to fault identification and final resolution for accounts primarily located within the United States. Familiarity with the Strata and Helios product lines is a strong plus.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute troubleshooting, installation, validation, routine maintenance, and service repairs on designated equipment.
- Diagnose electro-mechanical and electronic issues on FEI/Philips and ThermoFisher SEM, FIB, and Dual Beam instruments, testing subsystems and analyzing performance data.
- Maintain proactive, transparent communication with internal teams to ensure all stakeholders are aware of issue statuses at all times.
- Cultivate strong partnerships with customers through regular follow-ups, driving long-term customer satisfaction.
- Manage administrative duties efficiently, including updating customer service logs, writing internal reports in a timely manner, and ordering repair parts.
Qualifications & Expertise
- Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience servicing, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex electromechanical, high-vacuum, and electronic equipment. Direct experience with FEI and ThermoFisher systems is highly preferred.
- Technical Acumen: Strong ability to understand and troubleshoot digital and analog circuits, with the proficiency to read and interpret electrical schematics.
- Vacuum Systems: Proven experience diagnosing and repairing high vacuum pumps and related systems.
- High Voltage Systems: Experience measuring and safely working around high voltage components (up to 30kV).
- Customer Excellence: Demonstrated ability to interface effectively with both internal team members and external clients as part of a solution-based service process, with strong English fluency.
- Software Proficiency: Comfortable utilizing Mac computers, internet applications, and FileMaker Pro databases.
- Professional Skills: Highly self-motivated, with excellent organization, time management, planning, and manual dexterity.
Travel & Physical Demands
- Willingness to travel up to 30% (both domestic and international), requiring a valid driver’s license and an active US Passport.
- Ability to maintain sufficient personal credit to finance travel expenses prior to standard company reimbursement, which is generally processed within 5 days after report submission.
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job, which frequently involve standing, walking, reaching, stooping, using hands, and kneeling.
- Capability to communicate verbally and in writing, both by hand and electronically.

- Base Salary: $70,000 – $145,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
