Job Title: Junior System Technician

Summary: Supporting role, system testing for scanning electron microscope (SEM) , and Focused Ion Beam (FIB) microscopes, system development projects.

Location: Hillsboro, OR

Part Time: About 20 hours per week during regular business hours. Very flexible schedule.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Provide testing support principally on ESP32 test platforms to support development of engineering projects for SEM/FIB systems. All work will be directly supervised by an STS engineer.
2. Primary project involves developing software for an ESP32 based CAN BUS reader that reads messages from a CAN BUS and provides the proper responses to specific messages. This CAN BUS reader is already functioning and the CAN BUS message protocol has been documented.
3. Troubleshoot and diagnose hardware and software systems with guidance from expert Service Engineers.
4. Test sub-systems on SEM and FIB instruments.
5. Collect and analyze data pertaining to the performance of the hardware and software.
6. Effectively communicate and partner with teammates and colleagues.
7. Document testing procedures and test data.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education/Experience:

1. Currently enrolled in, or recently completed a computer science, or electronics program.
2. Fluent and demonstrably proficient in editing software code in the Arduino IDE or similar environment, including installing and uploading programs to the boards.
3. Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electro-mechanical, and/or electronic equipment.
4. Experience developing and programming Raspberry Pi is desirable, but not required.
5. Basic understanding and/or experience writing in Python is desirable, but not required.
6. Basic understanding and/or experience writing in C++ is desirable, but not required.

Language Ability:

English fluency. Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write accurate correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations, to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Math Ability:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
